May 2025 reform — RD 1155/2024
The Tetuán study-visa page already reflects the reform. RD 1155/2024 (published in the BOE 20 November 2024, in force 20 May 2025, replacing RD 557/2011) sets one national framework for every Spanish consulate: your passport must be valid for at least 1 year from the application date; you need an admission letter plus proof that tuition is paid in full at an authorised (Instituto Cervantes / SIELE / SACIC-accredited) school; you must show funds of 100% IPREM (€600.00/month, €7,200/year — frozen at this level 2023–2026); and, for stays over 180 days, a criminal-record certificate and a medical certificate. The stay authorisation is decided at the Extranjería office within 30 days, and the consulate issues the visa within one month of a favourable decision.
Under the reform, stays of 180 days or less do not require a TIE. Stays over 180 days are issued a visa valid for 365 days, after which you collect your TIE (foreigner ID card) within 30 days of arrival in Spain.
Provinces under Tetuán Consulate General jurisdiction
The Consulate General in Tetuán processes student visas for residents of the following provinces (per the Embassy in Rabat's official list of consular districts):
Larache and Alcazarquivir — confirm which post handles you. Spain also lists a separate Consulate General in Larache, whose district appears to cover Larache and Alcazarquivir as well. This overlap is not fully clear from the published sources, so if you live in Larache or Alcazarquivir (Ksar el-Kebir), email cog.tetuan@maec.es before booking to confirm whether Tetuán or Larache should process your student visa.

For Spanish-language courses and other full-time study lasting more than 90 days. Tetuán applies the shared Moroccan national study-visa framework; the itemised list below follows that template, while the funds, fee, Apostille and reform rules are taken from the Consulate's own study-visa page. Bring originals and photocopies, sorted as instructed by BLS.

National visa application form
Completed and signed national (long-stay) visa form. Moroccan posts typically ask for two copies of the form plus two recent passport photos (3×4 cm, white background).

Valid passport
Original plus a photocopy of the biographical page. Must be valid for at least 1 year from the application date (RD 1155/2024) and have blank pages available.

School acceptance letter + proof of paid tuition
From an Instituto Cervantes-accredited (SACIC) school, stating the programme, start and end dates and hours per week, and confirming that tuition has been paid in full. An admission or deposit-only letter is not sufficient under RD 1155/2024.

Proof of financial means
The Tetuán page requires 100% IPREM for the student (€600.00/month, €7,200/year), plus 75% IPREM for the first accompanying family member and 50% IPREM for each additional family member. Show sufficient funds for your whole stay via bank statements or equivalent proof.

Spanish health insurance
Full-cover policy from a DGSFP-authorised insurer, minimum €30,000 cover, with no copayments and no waiting periods. Travel or Schengen policies are not accepted.

Criminal record certificate Stays over 180 days
Required for stays over 180 days if you are over 16. In Morocco this is the Bulletin n°3, obtained from the National Centre of Criminal Record at the Ministry of Justice or local first-instance courts (online at casierjudiciaire.justice.gov.ma). It must cover every country you have lived in over the last 5 years, be no more than 3 months old, and carry a Hague Apostille + sworn Spanish translation.

Medical certificate Stays over 180 days
Issued by a doctor from the Consulate's approved list, no more than 3 months old, stating you have no disease that could pose a public-health risk per the International Health Regulations (2005). Requires Apostille + sworn Spanish translation.

Proof of accommodation in Spain
Hotel reservation, a signed lease, or a letter from the school confirming your accommodation address.

Proof of residence in the consular district
Evidence that you reside in Tetuán, Larache, Chauen or Alcazarquivir. Non-Moroccan applicants are normally asked for a valid Moroccan residence permit; other identity documents (e.g. national ID / family book copy) may be requested per the Moroccan template.
Foreign documents must be legalised or apostilled and officially translated into Spanish. The Tetuán page requires every foreign document to carry a Hague Apostille (Morocco is an Apostille country) and an official Spanish translation before submission.
Apostille + sworn translation — the correct sequence
For the criminal-record certificate, the medical certificate, and any other foreign public document, follow this order:

Obtain the original document
Criminal record = Bulletin n°3 from the Ministry of Justice / first-instance court (online at casierjudiciaire.justice.gov.ma). Medical certificate from a Consulate-approved doctor.

Get the Hague Apostille
Morocco is a Hague Apostille party. Apostilles are issued by the King's Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, public prosecutors at courts of first instance, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Justice, or the walis / governors of prefectures and provinces.

Sworn Spanish translation
Have the apostilled document translated into Spanish by a MAEC-accredited sworn (jurado) translator — or an official translation accepted by the Consulate.

Submit
Original + Apostille + Spanish translation, plus photocopies of each. Both the document and the Apostille must be no more than 3 months old at submission.
Fees, appointment and processing
- The official Tetuán study-visa page states the visa fee equals €90 ("El importe de la tasa de visado equivale a 90 euros"). Confirm the exact dirham amount payable at filing.
- Appointments are arranged through BLS International — book only through the official BLS channel and never pay third parties for appointment access.
- The stay authorisation is decided at the Extranjería office in Spain within 30 days; the Consulate then issues the visa within one month of a favourable decision.
- For stays over 180 days the visa is valid 365 days; collect your TIE within 30 days of arrival in Spain.
- Apply around 3 months before your course start date to allow for Apostille stamping, sworn translations, and the Extranjería decision.

Which provinces does the Tetuán consulate cover? +

You must show 100% of IPREM for yourself — €600.00 per month, i.e. €7,200 per year (frozen at this level for 2023–2026). If family members accompany you, add 75% of IPREM for the first and 50% of IPREM for each additional family member.
Do I need a criminal-record certificate and medical certificate? +
Only for stays over 180 days (and, for the criminal record, if you are over 16). The criminal record is Morocco's Bulletin n°3, covering every country you have lived in for the last 5 years. Both certificates must be under 3 months old and carry a Hague Apostille plus a sworn Spanish translation.
Does my school need to be Instituto Cervantes accredited? +
For a Spanish-language study visa, yes — the school must be an authorised centre, and Instituto Cervantes (SACIC) accreditation is the recognised quality mark. Your acceptance letter must also confirm that tuition has been paid in full, not just a deposit. Every school on this site is Cervantes accredited.
When will I get my TIE? +
Stays of 180 days or less do not need a TIE. For stays over 180 days, your visa is valid for 365 days and you must apply for your TIE (foreigner ID card) within 30 days of arriving in Spain.
How early should I apply? +
Apply around 3 months before your course start date. Allow time for the Apostille from the Moroccan authorities, the sworn Spanish translations, the BLS appointment, and the 30-day Extranjería decision. Time-sensitive documents (medical certificate, criminal record) expire within 3 months, so don't prepare them too early.
